I had been back and forth between the Scott and Clyde Trench Coats from Sézane for about a year before I finally took the plunge and ordered the Sézane Scott Trench Coat.
The verdict? I have 0 regrets and couldn’t be happier with my choice.
I received the Scott Trench Coat in the beautiful Olive green color back in April of this year, just in time for peak spring. Needless to say, it was my most worn coat of spring 2025, and I anticipate it being a “go-to” for the upcoming fall season as well.
As an avid trench coat wearer (I now own about 8, all from various designers), there are certain things I look for when investing in a Trench coat. For me, it has to fit all or most of these requirements:
- Wearable for at least 2 or more seasons
- High quality fabric and/or water repellent
- Can integrate with most outfits/colors
- Includes a belt or a cinch waist
- Extends to (or beyond) my knees
I care less about price when it comes to outerwear. I’ll happily invest in a coat that’s going to last me many years to come, and stand the test of time. The Sézane Scott Trench is $305, which definitely makes it an investment piece.

First Impressions & Fit
When I first unboxed the Scott Trench from Sézane, I instantly fell in love. It was even better in person than online. I got this trench in the gorgeous Olive green color, and was drawn to how different it was from the typical camel and beige trench coats that you see all the time. The color is a deep sage, perfect for the spring & fall seasons, and easy to pair with most neutral outfits.
Is the Sézane Scott Trench Coat true to size? Here’s how it fits in real life
The silhouette is what sold me. Unlike other trench coats that hang a little too boxy or too stiff, the Sézane Scott Trench drapes in a way that instantly flatters the body. It’s fitted but not tight, structured but not bulky.
I took my usual size S, and wouldn’t change a thing. It fits perfectly through the shoulders and arms, and while I can comfortably wear a light sweater or knit underneath, I probably wouldn’t reach for it on top of anything too chunky.
Where the Clyde has that oversized, borrowed-from-the-boys energy, the Scott Trench feels more refined. The belted cuff sleeves are such a beautiful touch, and I love the wide, thick belt around the waist. I usually leave it untied for daytime, then tie it up for dinner or evening plans.
Scott Trench Fabric & Material
This coat is 100% cotton, and it’s a beautiful, thick material. However, it’s definitely not for heavy downpour days. In fact, I would avoid wearing this coat in the rain entirely, aside from maybe a light drizzle.
It’s lightly lined on the inside, which makes it perfect for those transitional months when the weather can’t decide what it’s doing. For me, that’s high-50s to low-60s, so think spring mornings & fall evenings.
Design & Styling
One of my favorite things about the Scott Trench Coat is how it moves with you when you wear it. The lapels are structured enough to keep their shape, but they aren’t stiff, so they gently shift depending on how you wear the coat (buttoned, open, belted, or draped).
Another detail I appreciate are the buttons on this coat. They are a beautiful tortoise shell that blend seamlessly with the Olive green, and I appreciate that they allow the color to have its moment.
The length of the Scott Trench hits just around the knees on me (I’m 5’7 for reference), which makes it ideal, and checks off one of my Trench coat requirements.
Compared to the Sézane Clyde Trench, which leans more modern and casual with its oversized silhouette imo, the Scott Trench has that timeless look that will remain a classic in your wardrobe for life.
Is the Sézane Scott Trench Coat easy to style? Outfit ideas + design details

The Sézane Scott Trench Coat is the kind of coat that pulls the entire outfit together without you having to think too much. Plus, the two deep front pockets are actually functional. They’re large enough to hold your phone, sunglasses, and lip gloss without things slipping out (which honestly, for me, never happens with women’s coats, so this felt like a win).

Practicality & Comfort
I’ve worn this coat on many different occasions, so I can definitely speak to it when I say that this coat is quite adaptable.
In other words, it moves with you. I’ve walked, sat, layered, and traveled in it, and not once has it felt restrictive or stiff. I could be running errands or heading to dinner, and it feels comfortable and wearable all day.
How practical is the Sézane Scott Trench? Comfort, layering & wrinkle test
*Storytime* So I recently took the Scott Trench Coat on a trip with me and packed it folded, fully expecting to steam it out when I arrived. To my surprise, it bounced right back. No steaming necessary. The cotton on the Scott Trench is thick enough to resist wrinkles, and any small creases from packing fell out within minutes of hanging it.
Weather-wise, I wouldn’t wear this in a rainstorm, but it handles light mist or drizzle just fine, especially since it’s lined. I find it best for that in-between weather: not cold enough for a wool coat, but too chilly to go without a layer.
The belt is the only part of the coat that feels a bit more structured. It’s wide, it’s stiff, and while that does gives it a more elevated look when tied, I do find that it can be a bit tricky to get just right. I don’t usually go for a bow (it’s quite bulky), but a knot or simple tie works beautifully. You can also tie it loosely in the back for a more laid-back vibe. I actually think this gives the coat a softer, drapier feel from behind.
Will the Sézane Scott Trench Coat last?
In my opinion, the Sézane Scott Trench Coat feels like it was made to last. The structure is so well done, from the stitching to the lining to the way it holds its shape even after multiple wears.
As long as you take care of it (avoid heavy rain, hang it properly, and store it well), I truly believe the Scott Trench will last you for years. It’s not a seasonal trend piece, it’s a timeless wardrobe staple that you’ll keep on reaching for.
Final Verdict: Is the Sézane Scott Trench Coat Worth It?
If your style leans timeless, elevated, and just a touch feminine, then the Scott Trench is your coat. Personally, I believe it’s ideal for anyone looking to build a refined capsule wardrobe or wanting to invest in a staple that will carry you through spring and fall, year after year.
This is not the trench for layering over chunky sweaters or running through the rain… but if you’re after a structured, elegant piece that elevates even your simplest outfits, I genuinely think the Scott trench is worth the price tag.
That being said, if you prefer an oversized, modern silhouette, or want something that feels more casual and relaxed, then the Clyde trench coat might suit your style better. It’s trendier, more versatile and roomy for layering, and has that slouchy-cool vibe that’s also very ‘Parisian’ in its own right.
For me, the Scott trench felt like the better long-term investment. Especially in the gorgeous olive green color way, it’s one of those pieces that makes you feel so beautiful and refined from the moment you put it on. I know it will be a staple in my closet for years to come.

There was a light mark on the front, barely noticeable but looked like it would wipe off easily with a damp cloth. When I did that, to my surprise, the white cloth showed blue from the dye! I tried it on a less conspicuous area (bottom, inside) and it did the same thing. I’ve communicated with Sezane and they said it’s not normal, of course. I’ve returned it and am awaiting a new one. I know you have the olive green and not the blue but wondered if you have noticed any thing similar? Thank you.

Hi Lisa! Thanks for your comment. Usually with new items, especially if they’re dark-dyed, I notice that the color does sometimes leak. I always try to wash new dark pieces (alone) so as to get rid of any extra dyes on it.
However, I did not notice this issue at all with the olive green color! It’s pretty light in color and there hasn’t been any dye transfers. I hope this is helpful, and you enjoy your new coat!
