Let’s talk about vegan leather handbags… but not in the way you might expect. Because this isn’t a post about sacrificing style for values. This is a post about bags that are so beautifully designed and crafted, you might even forget they’re vegan in the first place.
I always thought the vegan leather handbag conversation felt more like a compromise. More often than not, it felt like you were buying something that looked and felt like it came from a fast-fashion site, and never quite scratched the itch you feel when you buy real leather. However, I’ve recently noticed that a new wave of iconic vegan brands has quietly entered the chat, giving real deal leather bags a run for their money.
I’m talking about bags with craftsmanship behind them. Bags made by skilled artisans, in small batches, from innovative plant-based materials (that I’ve never even knew existed) that feel nothing short of luxurious. Bags you’d carry to a dinner in Paris and have people stopping you on the street to ask where you got them.
Today, I’m sharing 9 vegan leather handbags that look incredibly expensive, and fit various budgets. Whether you’re fully committed to a cruelty-free lifestyle, or you’re simply open to exploring what’s out there beyond traditional leather, I think you’re going to love what you find here.
The Best Vegan Leather Handbags Worth Knowing About
Before we dive in, let me just say: the brands on this list are primarily vegan handbag brands. They do not carry one-off vegan options, but rather, have built their entire identity around beautiful, cruelty-free designs. As someone who appreciates a brand true to their craft, I admire this greatly and I’m excited to share these brands with you.
I’ve curated a range of price points and aesthetics here, so whether you’re looking for a sculptural statement piece or a quiet luxury bag for everyday carry, there’s something for everyone. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
Freja New York

Starting off this list strong with Freja New York— a vegan handbag brand that has taken chic minimalistic to another level. Founded by Jenny Lei, a Cornell grad who couldn’t find the perfect tote for a job interview and simply decided to design her own, Freja has quietly amassed a cult following that includes Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lawrence, and Katie Holmes. As a recent owner of a Freja bag, I understand why.
The brand handcrafts their entire collection in small batches using what they call “Ultrafiber” — a premium vegan leather made from recycled microfiber that feels genuinely thick and buttery. It’s also water-resistant and scratch-proof, which is a huge bonus. Freja bags range from $200–$350 USD, which feels like a fair price for the quality you’re getting.
When choosing my first Freja bag, some of the styles I gravitated towards were the Paloma Tote, which truly is the perfect work bag as it fits a 16″ laptop plus all your other work essentials. This is also the bag that put Freja on the map! I also really loved their new Mercer Bag — a sculptural east-west top handle — which sold out multiple times, so that tells you everything you need to know.
I ultimately ended up choosing the Caroline Bag in Oat (pictured above), which is a 90s-inspired minimalist shoulder bag that is perfect for everyday, and elevates every single outfit. Its beautiful, muted cream color goes with everything in my wardrobe.
If you’re looking for avegan leather handbag you can reach for every single day, Freja is your answer. Their neutral color palettes and minimalist silhouettes lend themselves beautifully to everyday wear.
Melie Bianco

Melie Bianco is one of those brands that feels like a well-kept secret and deserves so much more recognition than it gets. PETA’s winner for “Best Animal-Friendly Accessories,” Melie Bianco creates vegan leather handbags that are both stylish and accessible, with price points that sit at a very affordable price point. Their bags range from $80-$150.
What really stands out to me about Melie Bianco is actually their business model. They operate on a profit-sharing model with their factories in China, meaning their workers quite literally grow alongside the brand. For a bag lover who cares about sustainability more than just aesthetics, this brand is one deserving of your attention.
Now let’s talk about the bags, because they are really good. One of my favorites from this brand is the Dakota Bag in the beautiful chocolate brown. It reminds me so much of the Mercer bag from Freja, very chic and minimalistic but with a bit of a curve. The Ruthie Burgundy Shoulder Bag is very city chic and gives me Balenciaga energy. I like it for its east-west silhouette, curved top handle, and silver hardware.
Then there’s the Sutton Tote in Black, which is the practical hero of their bags. This one also happens to be my personal favorite. It is exceptionally roomy, and fits up to an iPad, comes with a removable zip pouch to keep everything organized, as well as has a detachable crossbody strap. This bag is perfect for those who need more of a carry-all, without sacrificing style.
Matt & Nat

No list of vegan leather handbag brands would be complete without Matt & Nat, which, is arguably the OG of this entire vegan space. Based in Montreal, Matt & Nat (short for “Material & Nature”) has been pioneering vegan accessories for decades, and they’re one of the most respected names in the category for good reason.
I know I say this about almost every brand, but I truly believe Matt & Nat have to be my favorite vegan handbag bag on this list. Their styles & silhouettes are unmatched, and truly do rival many well-known quiet luxury handbag brands. Their bags are quite affordable, anywhere from $100-$350.
The brand uses a range of sustainable materials including recycled nylons, cork, and various vegan leather alternatives, with interior linings made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. The Juliet Satchel is my personal favorite from this collection. It’s from their Studio 901 collection and uses a high content of apple waste. Apple waste, guys… how cool is that?
Some other styles I love are the Adria Tote, which is a beautifully proportioned tote with tubular handles and a large exterior slip pocket that fits up to a 13″ laptop. It comes in Pearl, Cappuccino, and Black, and all three colorways are perfection. Then there’s the Silva Satchel, a more compact structured satchel with round handles and detachable shoulder strap. It has an effortlessly put-together silhouette that works with everything from trousers to denim.
LaBante London

I recently discovered LaBante London, a vegan handbag brand that has been quietly making an impact since 2009.
They make their bags from vegetable-based leathers with recycled plastic bottle linings. The brand also donates 10% of its profits to rotating charitable causes every season, and plants 10 trees in Madagascar for every single item sold. If you’re looking to support or buy from a sustainable brand that also supports charitable initiatives, LaBante London is definitely the brand to go for.
Now, let’s talk about the designs. LeBante London is known for their structured totes and elegant cross-bodies. The Grant Shoulder Bag has to be my personal favorite from this brand. It features cactus leather construction, a zip closure on top to keep everything discreet, and two detachable wallets. You can wear it as a top handle OR a crossbody depending on your preference. It’s the perfect work bag; you can carry everything you need while looking stylish and elegant.
Some other styles I really love are the Sophie Tote, which is similar to the Grant but a bit smaller and dainty in detail. If you’re looking for a more “quiet luxury” aesthetic from your everyday handbag, LaBante London is the brand to know.
Mashu

When it comes to handbags with playful silhouettes and personality, Mashu is the brand that comes to mind. Think wooden handles, signature silver and gold hardware, and an Art Deco style that you won’t find anywhere else. Their bags range from $330-$450.
Every single material used in a Mashu bag is 100% plant-based, made from pineapple leaves, apple leather, cactus leather, and vegan suede made from recycled polyester. And get this: Mashu was actually the first brand to ask its artisan partners to work with plant-based vegan leather alternatives.
So let’s get into the design of these handbags. These bags don’t try to look like traditional leather. They lean into their own aesthetic entirely, and that’s what makes them feel so luxurious. I am really drawn to the Aphrodite 2 Bag in the black and gold. I’m also living for it in the mocha suede. This is such a statement bag that is perfect to carry to dinner or a night out. It IS the outfit, and, arguably even the jewelry.
I also adore the Iris bag, which comes in the most gorgeous colorways. Mashu also offers free lifetime repairs, which is something I wish more investment-worthy brands would offer! If you’re looking for a bag that is uniquely out of the box and you won’t see on everyone, Mashu is your brand.
Loué Studio

Loué Studio is the newest brand on this list, and I’m so glad they showed up on my radar. Launched in 2024, it is definitely one of the most exciting things happening in the vegan leather handbag space.
The brand exists because its founder couldn’t find a bag she felt completely good about buying. She wanted a brand with no workers exploitation, no toxic materials, no animal cruelty, and no greenwashing. Unwilling to compromise on her values, and equally unwilling to settle for something made of plastic, she created Loué—and the results are beyond.
Loué Studio makes their bags from MIRUM, the world’s first 100% bio-based leather alternative. It’s a smooth and supple material that looks, feels, and performs just like animal leather. The result? The most chic little Pochette: the Mano Pochette. It has a sleek, sculptural top-handle with a minimalist tab closure that I’m completely obsessed with. The design of these handbags are so chic and elevated, and make the perfect addition to any outfit. The Mano Pochette is $650, so it is on the pricier side of this list.
Loué Studio is for the woman who cares deeply about what she carries, in every sense of the word. Definitely a brand to watch.
Thalie Paris

Thalie Paris is the brand for you if you love the idea of a Parisian luxury handbag with a sustainable edge. Founded in 2020 by Nathalie Dionne, a designer whose work has been featured in Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar, Thalie was born from a walk through the 16th arrondissement of Paris and a determination to prove that sustainability and haute maroquinerie can coexist beautifully.
The brand crafts their most iconic line from cactus leather — abrasion-resistant, highly durable, and far more refined than you might expect from a plant-based material. They produce every bag in limited series in France and southern Europe, and the Ambre bag in particular reminds me of the iconic Loewe styles. Prices range widely from $500-$1300.
I’m really drawn to the Ambre Shoulder Bag in Tan. The elegant silhouette and medium size make it the kind of bag that works for everything from a gallery opening to an afternoon full of errands.
I also love the Livia black wristlet… I have never seen a a bag with a shape like this before! Made from recycled salmon leather, this triangular patchwork design is one that is sure to draw attention. If you’re looking for vegan leather handbags that give off a true Parisian essence, Thalie Paris has you covered.
Giarité

Allow me to introduce you to Giarité, a brand I’m completely obsessed with right now. Founded in 2020 by Georgia Bobar, Giarité is a London-based luxury vegan handbag label. They are known for their luxury vegan handbags and statement accessories.
While they are widely known for their crystal vegan handbags, my personal favorites are from their ‘Everyday Vegan Leather Bags’ collection. There’s only about 5 different options, so they’ve kept this line very minimal.
The Valyn is probably my favorite. It’s a gorgeous, minimalistic East-West shoulder bag with tall, sculptural handles that make it look more expensive than almost anything I’ve seen at twice the price. This bag is around $395, but looks like it would easily cost you upwards of a grand.
Another style I really love is the Paphia — a geometric top-handle that also doubles as a crossbody, with a design that has quiet luxury written all over it. This style is currently on PRE-ORDER right now *as of Feb 2026* , and will be available to ship in August. If you want something a little smaller for date nights, I recommend checking out their Mini GTE, which is beautiful small crossbody with gold hardware that exudes elegance.
Louella Grey London

Finally, I’d like to introduce you to a vegan leather handbag brand that does oversized work totes beautifully — Luella Grey London.
Founded by designers Rachel and Sarah , this South London label produces everything in small batches, with ethically audited partners, and finishes each bag with a Luella Grey’s iconic ‘Thames Tassel’ detail or gold closure. I’d say this is one of those ‘if you know, you know’ brands, as it gives off a very quiet luxury vibe, with the tassels being the only “telling” detail about this brand. Prices range from $97-$197, so very affordable.
The Andrea Hobo tote is one of my favorites from this brand. The details are subtle but so intentional, and I just love that this isn’t your traditional, open-style hobo. It’s got a thick strap across the top keeping the bag together, adorned with a beautiful crystal palace clasp with the Thames tassel that just ties everything together and makes it look so much more expensive than it is.
Some other styles that I adore are the Adele Peat Crossbody, which is the perfect, sleek everyday bag, as well as the Darcy Black Laptop Tote, which has to be one of the most stylish work bags I’ve come across at this price. I love that it has a protected laptop compartment, as well as zippers and hidden compartments that make it the perfect on-the-go bag.
Final Thoughts
The vegan leather handbags brands on this list are proof that you don’t have to choose between cruelty-free vs beautifully crafted. These vegan leather handbags are the perfect blend between sustainability and artistry, and I have a feeling they’re going to continue making their mark on the leather goods world over the next few years.
I hope this list inspires you to explore a vegan handbag brand or two you hadn’t considered before. Whether you’re drawn to the sculptural artistry of Mashu, the quiet New York elegance of Freja, or the cutting-edge materials of Loué Studio, I’m sure you’ll find something here that is aligned with your taste and wardrobe.
As always, I’d love to hear which ones caught your eye, so leave a comment below and let me know!
