If you’ve been around C&C for a while, you already know that Elleme is a brand I bring up constantly. I’ve mentioned them in my affordable French handbag brands guide, my mid-range European bag roundup, and seemingly every conversation I have about handbags. At this point, a dedicated review felt long overdue.
I own two styles, the Boomerang suede in Chocolate Brownie and the Trousse woven in brown leather. Between the two of them, I have a lot to say.
This is my full, honest breakdown of the brand, both bags, and everything I’ve noticed after wearing them on repeat.

About Elleme
Elleme (elle-em) — short for Elle aime, meaning “she loves” in French — was founded in Paris by Jingjing Fan with one very clear intention: to create handbags with clean lines that seamlessly blend aesthetics with quality. Every bag is designed in Paris and handcrafted in Italy, which tells you everything you need to know about where this brand sits in terms of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
What makes Elleme stand out is their complete commitment to letting the design and materials do the talking. No logos, no flashy branding, no over-the-top hardware. Just beautifully constructed bags with sculptural silhouettes, rich textures, and considered finishing details. They had tapped into the quiet luxury aesthetic long before it became a buzzword, and it shows in the consistency of their entire collection.
The Boomerang in Chocolate Brownie Suede
First Impressions & Quality
I tracked down the Boomerang in Chocolate Brownie suede after it had been sold out for months, and the moment I finally got my hands on it, I understood the hype immediately.

The suede is extraordinarily soft — buttery in a way that feels almost indulgent to touch. The Chocolate Brownie colorway is a deep, rich brown that shifts slightly depending on the light: sometimes leaning more espresso, sometimes a warmer chocolate. It is one of those colors that photographs beautifully and looks even better in person.
The bag arrived in perfect condition. No smell, no shape issues, nothing that gave me pause. It felt luxurious from the moment I opened it.
Design, Functionality & Features
The real showstopper on the Boomerang is the gold hardware handle. It is a sculptural, beautifully plated gold bar that sits at the top of the bag, and there is nothing else like it in my collection. The weight of it, the finish, the way it catches the light — it feels and looks far more expensive than what you pay for it.
The Boomerang also comes with a detachable crossbody strap, which means you can switch up how you carry it depending on the occasion. Handheld for something more polished, crossbody for a more relaxed, everyday look. That versatility is a big part of why I reach for it so often.
The silhouette itself is unlike anything else on the market. There are no obvious references to other brands, no shapes that feel derivative. It is a bag with a real point of view, and that distinctiveness is exactly what makes it such a conversation starter. Every single time I carry it out, someone stops me to ask where it is from.
What Fits Inside the Boomerang

The Boomerang works best as an everyday essentials or evening bag rather than a workhorse. In the image above, you can see exactly what I fit inside: my Chanel compact, Chanel hand cream, AirPods case, a mini perfume, a lipstick, my personalised comb, sunglasses, and my watch. Everything fits comfortably with a little room to spare. If you carry a lot day-to-day, the Boomerang is not the bag for that — but for a day out, brunch, or an evening, it is absolutely perfect.
Pros & Cons of the Boomerang bag
What I love:
- The sculptural gold hardware handle is completely unique and endlessly complimented
- The Chocolate Brownie suede has maintained its texture and colour beautifully with regular wear
- Versatile carry options — handheld, crook of the arm, or crossbody with the detachable strap
- The silhouette is unlike anything else at this price point
Worth knowing before you buy:
- Suede requires a little more care than smooth leather — I recommend keeping a suede brush on hand
- It is a compact bag, so not suited for days when you need to carry a lot
- The Chocolate Brownie colourway sells out frequently — if you see it in stock, do not wait
The Trousse in Brown Woven Leather
First Impressions & Quality
The Trousse was a more considered purchase, and it has turned out to be one of the most-used bags in my entire collection. I was drawn to the woven leather immediately — it gives major Bottega Veneta energy at a fraction of the price — but what I did not expect was the quality of the leather itself.

It is buttery, soft, and has this remarkable quality of molding to your body as you wear it. I have never experienced that with a bag at this price point. The woven pattern is hand-interlaced, and up close, the precision of it is really impressive. Like the Boomerang, it arrived in perfect condition — no smell, no issues, nothing to flag.
Design, Functionality & Features
The Trousse has a boxy, structured silhouette that softens beautifully when worn. It sits against the body in the most effortless way whether carried on the shoulder or crossbody. The double zip closure runs along the top, and the stitching on the strap, the adjustable length, and the way the leather gusset on the sides is constructed all feel deliberate and considered.
One of my favourite details: both zipper pulls are stamped with the Elleme name in small, clean lettering. It is a subtle branding touch that feels elevated without being showy — exactly what you want from a quiet luxury handbag.

The gold hardware is weighty and solid — not the kind that starts to look dull or scratched after a few wears. The zipper pulls glide effortlessly, and after months of regular wear, the leather has only gotten better. No shape loss, no wear issues. It has held up impeccably.
What Fits Inside the Trousse
The Trousse is deceptively spacious. The boxy shape and double-zip construction means the interior opens up fully and is very easy to organise. I created a full TikTok on exactly what I fit inside — watch it below!
In short: this bag fits far more than it looks like it should. I can comfortably carry my LV card wallet, a Dior beauty pouch, my MagSafe charger, a comb, my keys, and my YSL sunglasses case — and it closes easily without looking overstuffed.
I love the double zip because you can designate one compartment for essentials and one for extras, which makes it very practical for everyday use.
Pros & Cons of the Trousse bag
What I love:
- The woven leather quality is on another level — buttery, soft, and it molds to your body as you wear it
- The double zip construction makes it surprisingly spacious and easy to organise
- The Elleme-stamped zipper pulls are a beautiful, subtle detail
- Gets mistaken for Bottega Veneta constantly — I get stopped weekly and asked which style it is
- Equally beautiful worn on the shoulder or crossbody
Worth knowing before you buy:
- The interior does not have structured pockets or compartments — I use a small pouch inside to stay organised
- Avoid overstuffing as it can affect the shape of the weave over time
- Write about the interior suede lining and how to color transfers… yikes.
A Note on the Negative Reviews
I have seen some online reviews mention a chemical smell on arrival, bags arriving out of shape, and a frustrating return process. I want to address it honestly: neither of my bags had any of these issues. Both arrived in perfect condition, and have held up beautifully with regular wear. The Trousse zippers still glide as smoothly as the day I got them, the suede on the Boomerang is unchanged, and the woven leather has only gotten better over time.
I also get mistaken-for-Bottega comments on the Trousse on a weekly basis — people stop me to ask which style it is, and that kind of reaction does not happen with a poorly made bag. My experience with this brand has been excellent, and I would not let a handful of negative reviews put you off. That said, if anything arrives that does not meet your expectations, document it immediately and reach out to their customer service straight away.
How I Style My Elleme Bags
Both bags are incredibly versatile, but they have slightly different styling personalities.

The Trousse is my everyday city bag. The brown woven leather works as a neutral with virtually everything — camel coats, all-black looks, beige and cream tones, denim.
I wear it most often on the shoulder or crossbody, and the adjustable strap makes the drop length easy to customize depending on what I am wearing. It dresses up and down effortlessly. I wore it to brunch in SoHo recently and got stopped twice on the street.

The Boomerang is my more elevated pick. I reach for it when I want the bag to be part of the outfit rather than just an accessory. The gold sculptural handle adds a structured, polished feel that pairs beautifully with more tailored looks like a suede jacket and black jeans, a trench coat over all-black, or even a simple knit and wide-leg trousers.
Despite having a more statement presence, it is very wearable because the Chocolate Brownie suede reads as a neutral.
Price & Value: Is Elleme Worth It?
Elleme bags sit in the $500–$700 range, which puts them firmly in the mid-range luxury space — above impulse-buy territory, but well below the designer price tags you would associate with bags of comparable quality and design.
For context: Bottega Veneta, which uses a similar intrecciato woven leather technique on styles like the Jodie and the Pouch, starts at around $2,500–$3,500. The woven leather on the Elleme Trousse gives a very similar visual and tactile experience at a fraction of that price. The craftsmanship, the Italian production, the quality of the materials — all of it holds up at this price point. For more brands delivering this kind of quality-to-price ratio, my affordable French handbag brands guide is a great place to start.
Both bags have maintained their shape, texture, and hardware finish with months of regular wear. These are not bags that need to be babied, and at this price point, that matters.
Who Is Elleme For?
Elleme is a strong fit if you:
- Love quiet luxury and want a bag that turns heads without a single logo in sight
- Are drawn to sculptural, original silhouettes that feel completely singular
- Want Italian-crafted quality at a mid-range price point
- Are looking for versatile everyday bags that work across seasons and outfits
- Have been eyeing the Bottega Veneta woven leather aesthetic but prefer a more accessible price
You might want to look elsewhere if:
- You need a highly organised interior with multiple pockets and compartments
- You are looking for a large tote or work bag that fits a laptop — Elleme skews more toward mid-size everyday styles
- Suede care concerns you — the Boomerang is beautiful but does require a little more attention than smooth leather
Final Verdict
Elleme is one of those rare brands that delivers on every front: design originality, material quality, Italian craftsmanship, and a price point that feels fair for what you are getting. Both the Boomerang and the Trousse have become permanent fixtures in my rotation, and I reach for one or the other several times a week.
If you have been on the fence about this brand, I hope this full breakdown gives you the clarity you need. They are worth it — and if you ever spot the Boomerang in suede in your size and colour, do not hesitate.
